This horse ride will take us to a small gully close to the Vilcanota river, in the district of Maras, where we will find around 4000 pools, where salt has been collected by hand in the same way for over hundreds of years.
We will set off from our ranch in Pichingoto, located at the foot of the gully close to the river in the rural community of Pichingoto. We will ride along an ancient Inca trade path which will take us to the Salineras, the impressive Maras salt mines, where we will observe how the members of the community extract the salt using a technique passed down many generations since pre-Incan times, using a subterranean saltwater spring, which is distributed over thousands of pools to facilitate the evaporation of the water and extract the salt.
The scenery, the people, the salt mines and the horses will make this an unforgettable experience.
Afterwards, we will ride our horses and return along the same trail to our ranch in Pichingoto.
Included
